Edward L. Erickson
President and CEO
Edward L. Erickson has over 25 years of experience in the management, leadership and oversight of life science-based companies. His expertise spans research products, diagnostics, and therapeutics and he has served as president, CEO or a director of over a dozen companies in these fields, three of which successfully completed IPOs under his leadership. He has raised a total of approximately $500,000,000 in equity and debt capital in both the private and public capital markets and he has considerable merger and acquisition experience. Mr. Erickson holds a BS with distinction in Mathematics with a minor in Physics and an MS in Mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He received an MBA with high distinction from Harvard University where he was elected a Baker Scholar and was awarded the Loeb Rhodes Fellowship in Finance.
Han Cao, Ph.D.
Founder and Chief Scientific Officer
Han Cao founded BioNanomatrix in 2003 as a spin out of the Princeton University laboratory where he was working on a multi-million dollar project funded by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Dr. Cao is a co-inventor of the company’s core single-molecule nanoscale whole genome analysis technology. His diverse scientific experience includes molecular biology, microarray and genomics technology development, as well as micro and nanofluidics design and fabrication. Dr. Cao leads multiple federal government funded projects at BioNanomatrix and is a member of the study section of the Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) Program of the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Cao received a B.S. degree from the University of Science and Technology of China and a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Delaware.
Michael Kochersperger
Vice President, Engineering
Michael Kochersperger joined BioNanomatrix in 2009. He has over 20 years of product development and commercialization experience at leading life sciences tools companies. Prior to joining BioNanomatrix, Mr. Kochersperger served as vice president of engineering at New Brunswick Scientific, a division of Eppendorf. Previously, he was director of SNP-IT genotyping research and development at Orchid Biosciences, where he led the development and commercialization of ultra-high throughput microarray-based genotyping systems. Prior to Orchid, Mr. Kochersperger served in project manager positions at Applera and Perkin Elmer. Earlier, he held positions of increasing responsibility at Applied Biosystems. Mr. Kochersperger received a B.S. in chemical engineering from Ohio State University. He has authored a number of scientific publications and holds three patents.
Lorraine LoPresti, C.P.A., M.B.A.
Vice President, Finance & Administration and Chief Financial Officer
Lorraine LoPresti joined BioNanomatrix in 2007. She has more than 20 years of experience in accounting and finance, serving in positions of increasing responsibility at public accounting firms and at several Fortune 500 corporations. Prior to joining BioNanomatrix, Ms. LoPresti was director of financial services for the Science Center in Philadelphia, where she also served as CFO for a number of early stage biotechnology companies. Ms. LoPresti was founder and president of Gracemark Solutions, Inc., a financial consulting practice. She received a B.S. in accountancy from Villanova University and an MBA from Rutgers University.
Gary Zweiger, Ph.D.
Vice President, Business Development
Gary Zweiger joined BioNanomatrix in 2008. He has over a decade of strategic business development experience with leading biotechnology and genomics companies. Prior to joining BioNanomatrix, Dr. Zweiger was senior director of business development at Affymetrix. Previously, he was director of business development for Applied Biosystems' Cell and Molecular Biology division. Prior to Applied Biosystems, Dr. Zweiger held positions of increasing responsibility at Agilent Technologies. Earlier, he served as a strategic advisor and consultant to biotechnology and genomics companies and to the financial community. Dr. Zweiger received a Ph.D. in genetics and a B. S. in biological sciences from Stanford University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in molecular oncology at Genentech, Inc. He has published a general audience book on sequencing the human genome, authored numerous scientific publications and holds seven patents.
