Sr. Software Engineer/Bioinformatics Specialist
The Sr. Software Engineer/bioinformatics specialist will be responsible for design, development and maintenance of a software suite for applications involving optical genome mapping/assembly/scaffolding and structural variation/copy number variation, including image analysis, algorithms development, visualization, statistical inference and pattern recognition. These software utilities will be developed for data generated by BioNanomatrix’s nanoAnalyzer® optical mapping system. The candidate will work in a highly collaborative group environment.
The successful candidate will have expertise in structured language programming environments such as; .Net, C/C++, C# and Java. The individual must have strong understanding of software architectures, GUI development and Object-Oriented design. 3 years minimum experience in C# (and .Net platform development under Windows) is required, additionally 4-5 years experience in Java and Linux environments is a plus. Knowledge of image processing and multi-threading is required. The candidate must have excellent understanding of iterative software development process and best practices. Previous experience and familiarity with Bioinformatics and data analysis in the genomics field is a plus. Working experience or educational background in Biostatistics, particularly in a genomics center of excellence or genetics lab, is therefore highly desirable. Individual must be a self starter and able to work independently with minimum supervision and in a team environment. Excellent communication skills required.
BS in Computer Science, Physics, or Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics or Biostatistics with 5 years of commercial software development experience or Master in Computer Science, Physics, or Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics or Biostatistics with 3 - 5 years of commercial software development experience in C# or Java is required.
Senior Methods Development Scientist (Molecular Biologist/Biochemist)
The successful candidate will be responsible for innovating and optimizing molecular biology methods, developing novel single molecule applications on BioNanomatrix platform, and managing external collaborations with the world's leading genomics scientists and groups on projects utilizing nanoAnalyzer® system. Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics Required, MS with extraordinary background and experience will be considered.
Essential skills and background include:
-Hands on experience of genomic analysis, technology development associated with large scale sequencing operations, SV/CNV/aCGH, GWAS study and data analysis.
-Success in direct involvement or management of such project evidenced by publication or commercial product development.
-Strong statistics, bioinformatics, and data analysis skills, as evidenced by publications.
-In depth understanding of genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry with good bench work experience.
-Experience in single cell, single molecule level analysis is a plus.
